The Penofin Jazz Festival began eleven years ago by Dr. Barbara Newell, CEO and Chairman of the Board of family owned Performance Coatings Inc.
Directed by Rich Halley, this was one of the finest presentations ever. What made this even more special is that it is held in renovated
Penofin-Seabiscuit Performing Art Center.
Dr. Barbara and Skip Newell, Penofin’s owners, saved Seabiscuit’s barn and eventually rebuilt it into one of this country’s unique performing arts centers.
The center is an acoustic wonder with its Pennsylvania Dutch gambrel-roofed shape rising sixty feet above the floor.
The two-part event began with a Friday night learning session. Northern California students worked closely with Rich Halley and his band members in
a creative environment that gave them a chance to explore the boundaries of jazz.
The following Saturday and all-day jam session began at noon with renowned artists Bobby Bradford, Rich Halley, and Clyde Reed.
The audience, including jazz fans from across the United States, Penofin dealers, sales representatives, and distributors were wildly enthusiastic,
making this the most successful festival ever!
