What is the most important step for a successful concrete or masonry staining project?

Surface preparation, the key to any successful paint or stain application, is particularly important to concrete and masonry finishes.

How do I prep the surface?

Always start with a clean, dry, rough surface by using Penofin’s Concrete and Masonry Cleaner and Penofin’s Concrete and Masonry Etcher to ensure a durable long-lasting finish.

Can I use this both inside and outside?

Yes.  Penofin’s Concrete and Masonry Stains are perfect for both interior and exterior applications.

Will it prevent stains on my concrete?

Penofin’s Concrete and Masonry Stains will help prevent stains from saltwater, brake fluid, transmission fluid, motor oil, bleach, and gasoline.  The finish has been developed to resist hot time pick up, and has a high quality mildewcide to inhibit mildew growth on the stained surface.  Penofin Concrete and Masonry Stains also resists wear from foot and car traffic.

How do I apply?

Stir thoroughly before and several times during application from the bottom up.  Use a pump-up garden sprayer, brush, or roller.  Minimum temperature for application is 45 degrees.  Do not apply when the surface is hot to the touch or stain will not properly penetrate.  Apply only if rain is not likely in the next 24 hours.  Concrete type, texture, and color will affect finished appearance.

What’s the coverage?

250-300 square feet per gallon

Do I always need to use a sealer?

Yes.  A sealer will give the finish added protection and durability.

Can I use this on new concrete or stucco?

New concrete must cure for a minimum of 28 days before applying.

What’s the best way to clean / maintain?

The best way to clean and maintain is to sweep or hose down frequently and twice a season or more often if you wish use Penofin ProTech Cleaner according to the instructions on the bottle.

What do I have to do to refinish a surface with a prior finish?

Yes.  Sanding and then vacuuming the surface is recommended.

How long does it last both on horizontal and vertical surfaces?

Approximately 2-3 years before recoating.

Can I use ½ a can and store the rest?

Yes, if you have a tight seal it will store.  However, like all latex paint it will require considerable stirring after being stored a year or more.
